Free, open and yours.
Yappy is open source under the MIT license. No accounts, no sign-up, no per-character fee: being able to hear what you read is an accessibility matter, and accessibility should not ask for a credit card.

Downloads
First launch downloads the voice model (~380 MB), once. After that, Yappy works offline forever: synthesis, transcription and article extraction all happen on your device.
requirements
What it takes.
Computer
Any laptop from the last few years synthesizes faster than real time. On Apple Silicon Macs, several times faster.
iPhone and iPad
iOS or iPadOS 17 onwards. The beta arrives via TestFlight, Apple's testing app: it installs with one tap.
Disk
The app itself is small; the voice model takes about 380 MB, and the ear (transcription) downloads separately only if you use it.
Network
Only for the initial model download and for visiting the URLs you share. Everything else works in airplane mode.
for builders
From source.
The whole project lives on
GitHub: the
desktop and mobile app (Tauri + Rust + Svelte), the synthesis
engine, the guionizador with its vendored CLDR grammars, and this
very website. With Rust and Node installed,
cargo tauri build
produces your own copy. Full instructions are in the README.
